1.4 Edit home Screen loop #115

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. installing 1.4 (this mornings update)
2. I had the initial off center dialog box
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Instead of a clean install of book.app I got a loop of restarts- not a full
restart were the screen
turns off just a wheel in the center of the iphone then the icons disappear and
slide back on the
screen and the "Edit Home Screen dialog box appears - this happens forever
until I did a factory
restore by holding the home button as I restarted the Iphone. I also forgot to
mention that
before the install I had 3 full pages of web icons and installer apps but after
the install I only had
a page and a half!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
the latest 1.4 r??? from the morning of 3/26/08

Please provide any additional information below.
Like I said I had the initial problem that I discussed with Zac about the 1.4
books.app having and
off center blue dialog box on start up and not allowing the app to fully load.

It sounds like something damaged your Springboard configuration. I'm positive
that Books' installer would
never touch that, and I know that the latest build installs without error.

A few questions: You mentioned three full pages of bookmarks. Did you have all
four pages of your
Springboard full (80 apps and/or shortcuts)? I've heard of issues installing
new apps under those conditions.
Did you install or upgrade any other apps when you upgraded books? Is there
any chance either of your
partitions were completely full? I can imagine problems if the app couldn't be
completely written to disk.

I'll keep this issue open for a while in case anyone else has similar problems,
but I'm very sure this isn't a
Books bug.

Can you confirm or rule out if you rand the BSD passwd command prior to your
reboot loop? The other
user who had this problem did indeed run passwd which is known to cause exactly
the reboot symptoms
you've seen.

I have a somewhat similar problem with the same release. The Book.app installs
fine,
but when any "system messages" is send to the screen while the application is
active,
the bottom of the blue dialog box is partially displayed at the top of the
screen
(i.e. the top part of the blue dialog box is hidden). An example of this
happening
would be when an SMS arrives while I was reading.

This prevents any other action except turning the phone off by holding down the
power button (top-right button). When the "Power off" dialog box is displayed,
it
clears the error and the blue dialog box is then displayed centered on the
screen.

This is on 1.1.4.

Comment #4 has nothing to do with this issue. I wasn't able to reproduce it by
sending SMS to myself. Please confirm version of Books is at least r468 and
open a
new issue with more details if this is still a problem.

Problem was confirmed to be caused by the BSD passwd command -- a known bug in
the
BSD Subsystem. Issue is unrelated to Books.
