[Bug?] Status text is gone at least on iPhone 11 [1011] #288

Brief description of the issue:

Below the play/pause button there was always a status text. Now the status text is gone at least on a iPhone 11 Pro. On my iPad it’s still there. For me the status text was a useful information, but it’s not absolutely necessary but should be consistent across all devices. I would prefer it with that status text especially with slower networks.

Where did you see it? (App build version, device type and iOS version):

Build 1011, iPhone 11 Pro + iPad mini 5, iOS 16.6

(Where possible, please attach Please provide screenshots or error message text)

I preferred it too, but the team vetoed having the text there in the production release.

I’ll always advocate for putting it back. Especially if we get confusion from users.

@RPNate1 Yes, this is unfortunately a fundamental tendency that many software tries to disenfranchise the users more and more (MS products are the best example for this).

Less status messages and control options because they could overwhelm the users. This is a very superficial view.

As long as the conditions are perfect this may work, but as soon as for example the start of the music takes longer because of a slow connection the users are helpless and really more confused than if they had a status display.

The standard user then naturally suspects a fault in the software because they can't recognize the fault due to the missing status display. And there are helpless then lol. Paradox. But that's the way it is - more and more - unfortunately.

I'm with Christian on this one. Having some kind of status is helpful if it takes a while.

I was going to file feedback for this earlier because there were times when the app showed "stopped" while loading music. There's probably a better way to describe "loading music, but not playing yet." Or, choose to update the status text only when necessary. It was dark gray and subtle enough to ignore if you didn't care.

As it stands, there's still room for the tiny status text below the spinning gear.

The status text could also go below the RP station selector and above the Share button. There's plenty of room to write a few words in small print.

"It was dark gray and subtle enough to ignore if you didn't care." YES!!! Excellent point. @bradtchapman 👍👍👍

Anyone who follows my threads here may have noticed that I get easily disturbed about things like wrong colours, missing links and connections and so on. This status text was definitely really useful information for me (and I am sure not only for me) to predict internet quality and function.

I was the CIO of a manufacturing company for a long time. Saving money was always the most important issue for the owners of the company. So it was crucial for me to encourage users to help themselves without needing my help or a support person. So I always told them where they could go to help themselves. And often it's just a matter of knowing where to find a status message (for example of a printer or an email queue). Some companies hide those messages more than others (I won't name them again here, we know all who they are).

And when I told/tell them where to find a status text, it has definitely resulted in fewer support calls and higher user satisfaction. And that's not a theory, that's my years of practical experience. And these are the points I want to share.

They user need to be able to understand what the software is doing. Communication is the key, yes and a piece of software should communicate with the users, help them to understand the functions and so on. Be transparent. Then they will love to use it.

Anyway what’s the arguments to let the status text disappear? I would love to know that different view points.

I liked the text. the team voted to remove. So far, the tech issues have been very minimal.

I'm closing issues today that are old or irrelevant now.

I'll keep this one in mind as we go forward.
