VMD store does not show up under extensions in Windows 10 #5

Hi Henrique, I followed the installation instructions #1 for installing VMD Store from the page below. https://biosim.pt/how-to-install-vmd-store/. The installation process went well with no errors.

However, when I restarted VMD, I do not see the VMD store under the Extensions tab. I tried doing this both in VMD 1.9.3 and VMD 1.9.4 with no luck. Any suggestions to resolve this issue is much appreciated.

Thank you Madhavan

Update: Finally, I succeeded in installing VMD store and MolUP on a windows 10 computer.

Initially I had tried using VMD version VMD 1.9.4a53 for Windows, 64-bit Intel x86 (x86_64) and VMD 1.9.4a51 for Windows, 64-bit Intel x86 (x86_64) and version 1.1.13 of vmdStore. When I attempted to do this, the vmd.rc file in the C:/Users/username/vmdStore was not even read by the VMD program.

In order to get the VMD to read the vmd.rc file in the “C:/Users/username/vmdStore” folder, I had to add the following command to the vmd.rc file in the C:/Program Files/VMD folder. This was done using the tkconsole and using the command pico vmd.rc and saving the file after adding the command below.

VMD Store ## START

play "C:/Users/username/vmdStore/vmd.rc"

VMD Store ## END

Even though VMD was able to read the vmd.rc file and VMD Store tab showed up under the Extensions menu in VMD, upon clicking the VMD store tab, it gave the following error message and was unable to load vmd store.

invalid command name "styleConfig" … … ..

I even tried installing vmd store 1.1.13 using macOS Monterey and still received the invalid command name "styleConfig" error.

Eventually, after looking at some of the issues posted by folks on the github, I tried downgrading the version of VMD 1.9.3 and version 1.1.11 of VMD store and that worked. Even with this, the VMD store froze up showing the blue start up screen with the message “ Loading… We are collecting new data from the internet….. please wait”.

Based on some feedback I had received earlier, this freezing up may be because of MolUP trying to communicate with github.

I closed that window and went ahead and manually installed the MolUP using the instructions on the website, which worked without any issues. When installing molUP, I added the following lines to the vmd.rc file in the C:/Program Files/VMD folder.

Version XX versionXX

variable molUPpath "C:/Users/username/molUP" lappend auto_path $::molUPpath vmd_install_extension molUP "molUP::start" "VMD Store/molUP"

vmdStore#### END molUP
