The sentence "[...] enabled by the systematic organization of resources into processes that transform materials [...]" seems a bit complex. Why not simplifying it and providing a link to the wikipedia page ? Something like "A computational workflow consists of an orchestrated and repeatable pattern of data processing activities". It is a bit less precise but easier to understand from a large audience.
