Create a group to work on Basis of Record terms #84

Closed ramonawalls closed 5 years ago

ramonawalls commented 5 years ago

BCO will house a new exemplar controlled vocabulary for Darwin Core, to serve at the CV for basisOfRecord (http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/basisOfRecord).

If you would like to take part in this effort, please add your name as a comment to this issue.

I'm not needed but you may want someone from ECO, cc @mgiglio99

mgiglio99 commented 5 years ago

I'm not very familiar with this project, but if you want ECO to be involved, I'm happy to help.

tucotuco commented 5 years ago

In.

ramonawalls commented 5 years ago

Great suggestions, @cmungall, and thanks for being willing to help @mgiglio99. It will be good to coordinate the logic of basisOfRecord (which is defined as "The specific nature of the data record," but is essentially the type of evidence that supports a record) with ECO. I'll tag you when we have questions, @mgiglio99.

tucotuco commented 5 years ago

I think it is on the right track to model basisOfRecord as Evidence. Asking @Steve Baskauf steve.baskauf@vanderbilt.edu to join us for the work he has done to use Evidence explicitly in modeling biodiversity data in Darwin-SW (see https://www.researchgate.net/publication/309026488_Darwin-SW_Darwin_Core-based_terms_for_expressing_biodiversity_data_as_RDF/figures ).

I'm a little concerned about over-extending myself because of the number of projects I've gotten involved in. But I can at least commit to tracking what's going on here and provide input as appropriate.

OBISCanada commented 5 years ago

i would like to participate in this project

ramonawalls commented 5 years ago

@baskaufs, we are grateful for any input you can give us. I'll tag you if there are questions that I think are particularly relevant for you. If you have time to read threads occasionally, that would be great. Otherwise, I guess we will put the whole list out for review before it is finalized.

ramonawalls commented 5 years ago

I'm closing this issue, but anyone else who comes along and wants to join may still add their name here.

Hi @ramonawalls the Atlas of Living Australia is very interested in this topic as we try to parse data coming into the aggregated dataset. I'd be keen to be involved in the TG. Thanks!
