IE 8 + Slideshow causing domain shutdown on LAN #138

Hi! Been testing Slideshow 2 (v147/Mootools 1.2.1) for a client's site on one
of our development
domains. I really like it. However, the client was complaining that on machines
running IE 8 the
slideshow would slow to a crawl and stop after only a few slides.

The slideshow worked fine on all my usual test machines (Mac Safari/Firefox; PC
IE 6). So I went
to test on the only machine we have here running IE 8: a laptop that connects
wirelessly to our
LAN. I tried accessing the page with the slideshow on it, and it did indeed
seem to get stuck in
some sort of recursive loop. The browser activity bar showed a perpetual
download of the
progress indicator PNGs, but the image never progressed. So I quit IE 8 on that
machine and
moved back to my workstation.

Shortly after that I noticed that no one in our office could access our own
domains. All other
internet traffic was normal, but we couldn't see anything coming from our web
hosting provider,
including mail.

Even odder, our domains were perfectly visible to anyone outside our LAN! It
was as if we had
firewall blacklisted ourselves. This blockage continued until I reset our cable
modem router.

I didn't put two and two together until I went back to the IE8 laptop and tried
testing the
Slideshow 2 page again. Down went our domain again!

Let me guess: this is the result of some poorly documented change Microsoft
made to IE that
has changed the ball game for developers.

If that's the case, I'm guessing a fix is a long way off, so I'm thinking I
will have to implement
some other slideshow app. Which is too bad.

If I can assist in bugshooting, please let me know; still have the toxic page
code.

Sure thing!

...is my initial attempt, plus a bug fix I read about online (Line 6) that
didn't solve the lockup problem for my
client in IE 8.

Again, I had no problem with Slideshow in any browser other than IE 8.

http://zgraphicsdev.com/bulklift2/fun-place-to-work-TOXIC-2.html
was my attempt to plug a more recent version of MooTools into the mix to see if
that would help. This was
the file I was viewing that brought down our domain within our LAN.

The problem machine is a Dell laptop, running XP, SP 3, running IE 8.
