Can History manager support be added to allow direct links to shows be sent to 
other users?

I think he means something like this:

mydomain.com/#slideshow_id/3  so that when people open the url, image nr 3 of 
the slideshow with that id is automatically shown...

Hi! So something like that is actually supported at the moment - check out the 
"match" option:

http://code.google.com/p/slideshow/wiki/Slideshow#Options:

By default Slideshow looks for ?slide=n where "n" would be the slide to start 
from.
