Mac Wallet 2.11.0 error on snapshot download #1182

Open alexs00001 opened 2 years ago

alexs00001 commented 2 years ago

Unable to start wallet. I get the following error when downloading the snapshot: https://i.imgur.com/F0CkOOh.jpg When 2.9.1 stopped syncing due to the hardfork, initially I tried an upgrade from 2.9.1, and failing that I tried a fresh install. Attempting to restart the wallet app after the error just results in the app sitting forever at the splash screen. Happy to provide whatever system details or logs will be of benefit.

Thanks.

Hi @alexs00001 , can you attach your node log as well?

1 App logs 2 Compress

Also, a kind reminder to backup your wallet.dat.

Tried setting up on a newer mac that has never had the wallet installed. Was able to download the snapshot and sync. When I imported my wallet.dat, I got a 'Node is Disconnected' alert. Restarting the wallet app now results in an 'Unable to start blockchain' message after a few minutes. Logs attached logs2.zip .

@alexs00001 , on your newer mac, can you try another wallet.dat?

On your old Mac, if you did not specify where you saved it, it should be located here: Mac — Go to Folder:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Defi/wallets/

wallet dat location

I tried a number of wallet.dat files and I get the "Node is disconnected" message each time. I'm continuing to try them but it is a slow process of downloading a snapshot over and over. New logs attached. logs3.zip

I was able to get back online with a Windows machine. Hopefully I can switch back to the mac with a future version. I lost a fair bit of sleep this week worrying about the possibility of an unrecoverable situation. Still happy to provide any details that may be of use to help others in the same situation.

Getting the same behaviour on mac wallet 2.12.0. logs4.zip

Hi @alexs00001 , thanks for your feedback, please keep a copy of your wallets folder + passphrase — keep it safe.

Alternatively, might I suggest using DeFiChain Light Wallet, it saves you the hassle of running a full node wallet.

Do note that the DeFiChain Light Wallet app's & Desktop app's restoration methods are irrelevant; meaning to say you can't load the 24 words from mobile app on to the desktop app and neither can you load the wallet.dat from the desktop to mobile. If you would like to use the mobile app (saving the hassle of running a full node wallet), you'll have to create a new wallet and transfer your funds to the mobile app.

The team is currently working on integrating the mobile & desktop app — so you can use the same 24 words account concurrently. As for now, these are 2 independent applications. Hope this resolves your issue.

@alexs00001 there seems to be another process running based on your logs. Can you try to:

  1. Backup your wallet first, ensure you have a working .dat copy
  2. Uninstall app, mainly the /Volumes/Archive/defi try to backup it on a different folder and delete it
  3. Restart machine
  4. Install the latest version of DeFiChain app
  5. Try again
