New icon for ZFS drives #19

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The icon is defined in:

/System/Library/Filesystems/zfs.fs/Contents/Resources/VolumeIcon.icns

If we have a different/improved version, we can change the default icon that
gets mounted on the
desktop. We should have a vector art, including up to 512x512 (providing that's
backward
compatible with Leopard) in an .icsn format.

Oh yeah, we should *at least* stick a big Z on that.

I was wondering about a drive icon with a water-type pool in the inset with a
small Z-like duck floating in it :-)
Still, I'll leave it to people more creative than me ...

My Colleague rarely gets to play with Lightwave these days, so he's jumped at
the change and has already
mocked up Apple's hard drive icon in Lightwave.

the model looks fantastic so far!
Where do you want to go from here? I was thinking along the lines of what Disk
Utility presents when you have
a mirror/stripe RAID, where you have two disks stacked on top of each other...
And perhaps a shadow in the form of ZFS?

Any way, Monday (Aus/Melbourne time) I'll post a URL to some links for people
to have a squizz.

Cheers,

Raoul.

Okay,
We're re-working the icon.
It won't be on its side. Pool is going.
And the best comment is that it's a mechanical drive! so yes.. the
disk itself is changing...
Will whack up a "rev 2" and put up at the end of the day...
Good feedback people...
Cheers,
R.

I'll get the original vector files for these and get them uploaded but in the
meantime I've attached pngs of the
duck based ZFS icons that we had created a little while back.

OTOH, maybe something like a Roman fasces with straps forming a clear Z.
