Release Roadmap

Milestones to launch:

• Milestone 1: switch out existing template with new template & ensure there is a way to push updates

  Goal: move the new design to the blackdot website as soon as possible so something is visible & being used. The design should be used, but the management of members will still be manual.

  Required:

  • fix homepage design issues
  • fix members directory design issues & style normal page layout
  • add eventbrite widget to homepage
  • default to fixed width design (for this milestone only)
  • import all content on current site to test site & ensure it looks ok
  • fill out lorem ipsum placeholder text in design
  • ensure updates to the template can be distributed to main blackdot site
  • fill out the 'about us' page

• Milestone 2: finish gopaywall integration & launch functional site

  Goal: make membership application/management as automated as possible. Users should be able to apply & join through agreed upon process w/ no extra manual work, and should be able to get the members only experience when viewing the site.

  Required:

  • finalize gopaywall fields & hook up to members directory server + members directory site
  • if possible, make sure events section carousels & the community section's 'latest members' content is populated automatically
  • test all user journeys
  • after ensuring everything works, make non-functional parts of the site visible again

• Milestone 3: mobile friendly design

  Required:

  • remove fixed width design and make site responsive/mobile friendly (desktop -> tablet -> phone)
  • fix any remaining design issues
  • make sure there is a way to backup & restore the content on the site (not an issue for the template since it is in version control)

• Milestone 4: handoff

  Required:

  • fix all in-source TODO
  • setup visual regression testing through sauce labs for future developers

Note on publishing the design:

When the initial version is ready, we can transfer the test website's ownership to the blackdot account (see https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206537197-Changing-site-ownership). Then, instead of replacing the old one w/ the new, we can just point the URL to the new site. This makes using the old site in case there are problems much easier.
