Chapter 8 notes

Like openings, though, closings are a moment of power and memory formation.

• Great actors -> reminds me of how books are finished.
• Also Kahnemann’s colonoscopy experiment - longer didn’t matter, the end of the procedure determined how people perceived it
• Tequila shots -> reminds me of whisky shots in the end of Brooklyn Beta conference
• Last call / when and where — she keeps talking about being in charge rather than being carried by events. That might be more valid for an event organiser but we usually talk about community gatherings here. Should we define the difference? Although she keeps talking about connecting people
• Colour games? Greens vs blues
  • Reflection questions in the end

Finding the thread

• Token bracelet -> bridge between gathering and real life

Just as you don’t open a gathering with logistics, you should never end a gathering with logistics, and that includes thank-yous.

As you close, there may be a brief moment to hark back to the place this book began—to your purpose for gathering. There is often a subtle way to remind people of why what is now ending was initiated in the first place.
