Download assets via a web browser? #5

Is your feature request related to a problem or weakness of addon? Please describe.

I'm always frustrated when trying download an asset and the integrated BlenderKit interface fails to work. I've been a paying subscriber to BlenderKit for five months and while I greatly appreciate the variety and value of the downloadable assets, with every update to the BlenderKit interface old issues are fixed and new ones introduced, or in the case of BlenderKit 3.1.1, the stalled download "green box of death" has reared its head again.

When I purchase an online asset from another vendor I never have to wonder how many download attempts I'll have to make, or how many times I'll have to shut down and restart my Blender project, in order to obtain the asset. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens with BlenderKit.

The option to download BlenderKit assets via a web browser.

Canceling my BlenderKit subscription.

Hi @SongCast,

thank you for the proposal and very sorry for any inconvenience. We will discuss your proposal in our team, and also try to fix all the issues.

I think, that the main thing we need to make better is the add-on itself. We need to change the release process to mitigate such errors (i.e. make beta versions before releasing major changes). We recently changed the add-on to use background daemon. This changes brings many benefits, but also some new scenarios where it can fail and we need to address those.

You can always try to use older version, if some problem occurs: Snímek obrazovky_2022-04-18_18-29-02 (or download it from https://github.com/BlenderKit/blenderkit/tags)

Also, if you had problems with download, which prevented you from doing your work we can at least partially compensate you with prolonging your subscription if you write at info@blenderkit.com.

Bugs leading to this problem were fixed in 3.1.4 which was released yesterday. Please remove the 3.1.3 add-on manually (you might need to disable add-on, restart Blender and/or computer and delete the add-on) and install version 3.1.4 from .zip file which can be downloaded here: https://github.com/BlenderKit/blenderkit/releases/tag/v3.1.4.
