TFC had "ProPick" used to detect nearby ore deposits, a feature like this may be needed. Only difference is that flint and bone can repair tool unlike TFC and these materials are abundant. Alternatively gravel ores could be increased on the surface possibly..

Increase Ore Gravel Spawns per chunk.

Food is hard to come by so increasing drop rates from gardens will offset eating with the ability to gain seeds a little faster. Goal is Day 1 being able to have everything needed to plan a small garden.
