Suggestion: New machine - an incinerator #1244

Multi-block (of course), 3 x 3 x 3, bottom layer cobble (or bricks perhaps) around netherrack, middle layer sheet metal blocks around fire (light netherrack with flint and steel), top layer single sheet metal in the center (or some kind of chimney?). Accepts items piped into it and nullifies them. Basically, a big beautiful garbage can, IE style!

I'm partial to the idea of an incinerator fed from the side, instead. Something done with conveyor belts, a bit like the assembler, but with visible flames maybe?

mindforger commented 8 years ago

an round opening with a 30° angle and a iris style shutter ... if you know what i mean XD

KnightMiner commented 8 years ago

Maybe give it a byproduct of ash for every four or five items burned? Even if it has no other use than decoration, it would still be a fun result as burning the items actually produces something leftover. And for those who would prefer not having to deal with ash can just put it back in the incinerator.

you can already make an incinerator, make a hollow 3x3x3 with lava in the middle from not burnable IE blocks and use conveyers to dump items into the lava

mindforger commented 8 years ago

but it won't look awesome :D

AEnterprise commented 8 years ago

that depends on what blocks you use, if you add some chisel blocks or even chissel & bits it can look pretty good, atleast untill an IE multiblock is made (if one will be made)

rbandboy commented 8 years ago

Then there's the whole problem with certain items not being destroyed by fire/lava damage... (remind me to never try to drop null TCon tools into lava again)

MalkContent commented 8 years ago

The incinerator as a machine could simply generate a (very small) amount of energy from it, or maybe create a bit of slag or something. Yknow, to encourage building it vs more space efficient solutions (aka a conveyor and a fireplace). Creating the multiblock would simply turn the conveyor inside the structure into a special conveyor, like the ones at the stamper for instance. And instead of actually pushing it into the fire, it deletes the items, which would also solve the "certain items not being destroyed by fire" problem.

PrincessRTFM commented 8 years ago

I assumed that the actual deletion mechanic would be "delete this from the world", but I thought that using a visual of fire would look cool and be relatively realistic.

And on a related note, the Crusher destroys items that it doesn't have a recipe for. I have one in my base, sunken into the ground, that I just toss items into when I want to destroy them. Still looks cool, though I'd love it if I could specify in the configs a "default" item to output when there is no recipe. Make it dump out a scrap/junk kind of thing.
