Teacher oversight #1

After having the ASB director speak to the principal about recommending this app, the consensus was that we need to have more teacher oversight on comments that are posted by students. While we understand that the idea is to provide students within the class with a place to collaborate, for school safety purposes we need to know that all posts are somehow moderated by the teacher of the classroom. We don't have any specific recommendations at the moment, but please think of some ideas for how we could provide some kind of teacher moderation in order to ensure that student posts are school appropriate.

Ok, that makes sense. I'll look into what can be done.

I've looked into it and brainstormed some possible solutions. Since I would like it to be a student-centric platform I looked for solutions that balance teacher control and student autonomy.

  1. To combat the use of vulgar language, I can expand on the already existing systems for chat filtration. This is a relatively simple problem to combat.

As for the blocking of inappropriate ideas, since we can't flag particular words I would need to create a different system.

  1. Teachers can view their classroom's chat, shadow-ban individuals, and delete messages but not leave messages. I believe this is a good balance that keeps the chat clean while keeping it a "student-only" space.

I'm still wondering about what the rules around student-created chats are. I've talked to Mrs. Matchett and she said the best plan forward is to get these ideas approved by you, her, and Ms. Marcroft. Then present the finalized plan to Mr. Walker.
