It would be interesting to have a way to evaluate the impacts of IOT devices.
Thibault Pirson & David Bol have published a methodology and impact factors to model the embedded (carbon) impact of IOT devices : https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0959652621031577
The model is based on the technical characterization of IOT devices on several "hardware specification level" for several functional blocks.
Each functional block have an impact depending on its "hardware specification level" specified by a level {lower, typical, upper}
We would need to extract the transport impact from the overall impact to report transport and manufacture separately.
This approach is used in the ADEME/ARCEP report relative to the impact of ICT in France (https://librairie.ademe.fr/cadic/6700/impact-environnemental-numerique-rapport2.pdf#page=67). They used it to report multicriteria impacts. We should get in touch with them to properly integrate the emissions factor given and try to come up with multicriteria impacts.
We could use as a first approach the electrical consumption given by the user and use our electrical impacts factors.
