[feature request request] Audio Versions? #29

How realistic would it be to add audio Bibles to this, and is it something you'd like to do? I saw that ph4 had audio versions and I thought I'd ask

I would be able to at least work on some of the integration and functionality

Let me know your thoughts on this! (:

Well, if you're willing to help -- just set me up an API that'll return audio on request, and the UI part will be on my side. It makes sense to have a separate server for audio streaming anyway. YouVersion for example have a whole bunch of servers dedicated to audio streaming.

what do you want to do about licensing?

Bohooslav commented 1 month ago

idk, put a disclaimer lol

"YouVersion for example have a whole bunch of servers dedicated to audio streaming" How much developers they have, not easy when you are alone on your bible project bro... 🙄
We are together in a different small boat (not a big cruise ship) but our reward will be high because we have fought the good fight...

I don't think they have too many guys, the more guys you have the more time you spend for management and sync. One experienced, dedicated guy can do a lot.

Yes and no, they have more mandays, money...
According to chatgpt, in 2019 they were 50 devs with the engineers, designers...
Actually for only YouVersion there are 39 open jobs. https://www.life.church/careers/find-a-role/?job_team=YouVersion In this case, it's easy to have more that 1 million downloads (724 millions in fact!).
But we are there and we sow where they didn't 😆 And they have nothing on Linux hahaha I close the parentheses about them. -> )

Also they sure spend lots of time for analytics and security as well as marketing.

This is so true. The more developers work on a single project, the less productive the whole system becomes. Most useful projects are written by one guy who knows how various systems come together.
