Open ReblochonMasque opened 3 years ago

Current behavior

boost app won't allow for local storage on BigSur 11.4

choosing a folder does not make the create a space button active. registered against my will to find that app is now locked in cloud use

Expected behavior

create a space in the chosen folder allow local free use (as advertised) without registration

version

the dmg linked on boostnotes website on 20210616 - sorry, not reinstalling to find a version number, it should be in the file name!

Question

Has this feature been disabled? Will it be fixed? (please include a step by step method to use boostnotes locally)

Hi, ReblochonMasque

I will assume we are talking Boost Note next application, latest release - probably v0.18.0.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

For boost note next, the legacy cloud storage is deprecated (never supported in legacy boost note afaik), don't know did you used the legacy cloud before?

The only supported storages in boost note next latest version are now:

  1. File system storage (this is your local storage, and you should be able to use the application without any problems, and without any cloud or sync capabailities (you can of course sync it with some external system)
  2. Cloud based storages, this is new cloud storage which supports syncing but also supports some amount of notes for free (or even free preiods if you used legacy cloud and migrated your storage), and after that you need to have a paid plan to have unlimted notes and other cool features

With that said, the local storage feature is not disabled. If general procedure for creating a local storage does not work for you, you should describe your issue, add screenshots and step by step to reproduce it, please also post the issue on formal boost note next repository: https://github.com/BoostIO/BoostNote.next/issues

For step by step how to create a local storage, there are multiple ways: Maybe the easiest is to go to the File menu, and click on Add local space, then a page with a form for creating the local space will popup and you can easily add a space name and choose previous local storage location or create a new one in some empty folder with destination you want (please use latest boost note next version to ensure everything is working)

If you diddn't have any storage currently, or want to create it alongisde other storages, you will probably see the next screen. There you can choose Create a local space option and you will encounter the same form as in previous example. To get to the screen manually, you can use sidebar to open all current storages and scroll down and click on Create space button. image image

To answer this questions: "choosing a folder does not make the create a space button active." It should, but you need to enter previous storage location (or new one) and choose a space name as well. Once you enter the name and location you will be able to create a space!

"registered against my will to find that app is now locked in cloud use" The app is not locked in cloud usage, you can still use local storages as well as cloud if you want, please ask anything else if you need.
