Unable to join or create campaign (endless hourglass) #62

Open dnethers opened 4 years ago

dnethers commented 4 years ago

Describe the bug I'm unable to create a new campaign, even after restarting TaleSpire, Steam, and my laptop. I have also uninstalled/reinstalled TaleSpire without any change.

To Reproduce

  1. After installing TaleSpire Beta, when I click "Begin", there is a spinning hourglass in the Campaigns area.
  2. I click on "Create new" under campaigns, which opens a "Create a Campaign" dialog
  3. I enter the desired campaign name (eg. "TestCampaign1234"), and click "Submit" which closes the dialog.
  4. After a few moments a new dialog opens title "Error", with the following message:

    Request Exception: Socket disconnected

  5. I click "OK" to close the error and repeat steps 2 and 3.
  6. After a few moments a new error dialog opens, with the following message:

Request Exception: The operation has timed out.

  7. I triple click on the upper left to open the console, and see the following:
    • [SRDebugger] No EventSystem found in scene - creating a default one.
    • DontDestroyOnLoad only works for root GameObjects or components on root GameObjects.
    • -- Noice. Steamworks started fine. SteamID=[redacted] PersonalName=[redacted] BuildId=0
    • DontDestroyOnLoad only works for root GameObjects or components on root GameObjects.
    • Waiting for AvailableRegions. State: ConnectedToNameServer Server: NameServer PhotonNetwork.networkingPeer.AvailableRegions False

Note: lines 1, 2, and 4 have yellow dots, while lines 3 and 5 have blue dots

Additional context I'm running Windows 10 Home (version 10.0.18362 Build 18362) on a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. Happy to give more specifics regarding build or network setup if that's helpful.

Just realized that the initial error message is different than the one I initially posted. The one I initially posted is what displays after successive attempts to create a new campaign.

Updating original post now.

After seeing some people say they have success with the uninstall > reinstall > restart > open TaleSpire method, I tried to do the same.

Still getting the same errors.

I have power-cycled my whole setup and flushed my DNS cache on my laptop multiple times. Still not able to create or join a campaign.

Internet setup: CenturyLink Fiber internet gateway --> TP-Link TL-SG105E switch (for the necessary VLAN tagging) --> Google Wifi

Another update:

I installed TaleSpire on my old laptop (~2016 Dell XPS 13), and it works on my home network. Seems to be an issue with my computer specifically, and not my network.

My new laptop (the one that I'm getting the errors on) is brand new. I bought it two weeks ago, and have only installed a handful of applications. The first thing I did was uninstall the trial of Norton that came with the laptop, and switch to using Windows Defender for antivirus and firewall.

Now getting a whole bunch more activity in the console. Updated console capture - TaleSpire png

Hi folks, we have put out a patch that fixing a main menu hang for one of our players. I'm very interested in seeing who else this helps and to gather the logs for people who still have issues.

The log files are usually here: C:\Users<YOURUSERNAME>\AppData\LocalLow\BouncyRock Entertainment\TaleSpire\Player.log and Player-prev.log in the same directory. It's probably best to dm them to me on discord just in case there is use identifiyable info in them.

Thanks for all the info and logs. It's very helpful

Oh an one tip with the screenshots, when you select a row it usually gives more context at the bottom of the window. The lines with red dots are especially interesting and, in this case, the ones starting with [WsLog are probably most pertenant.
