If you do let the app become suspended somehow (let's say you didn't follow the instructions to disable "battery optimization"), it will crash when you unsuspend it.
So far 100% reproduction rate. Just:
Disable battery optimization
Start the app and start syncing
Switch to Youtube or play with other apps until you notice the lights aren't changing
