It would be good to reduce the width of this zone to obtain better representation of usv patterns in the innermost and outermost rings. If this is to be done though we need to know what if any edge effects exist.
A complete set of transducers (sans rams and pnuematics) is currently available.
A reasonable experiment would be to take a small number of samples and repeatedly measure the usv at a point while slowly trimming them to bring an edge (or a corner) closer to the measurement point. Samples and measurment points would be chosen to span the range of factors influencing material inhomogeneity patterns, e.g. EW/LW, ring direction relative to free edge
