The newly installed laser distance sensor can be used to measure position of the sample surface. This inormation will be helpful in determining how much the distance between sample surface and other sensors (esp NIR illuminator) might vary. It might also be useful in determining/verifying sample extent and interpreting/controlling USV ram position data.

This mapping might be done by:

mapping a curve just inside the sample RGB outline
rastering the dample interior
rastering the cassette working area

Add the ability to map the sample surface in whatever fashion is most convenient so these ideas can be tested.
