Not very familiar with what's going on here, but is CACHE supposed to point to the user cache (it's better if there is none, only a system cache). Maybe I'm missing something.

@boegel : ok, I can see why it appears strange: there is both a system (via lmodrc) and user cache; I was with the impression that i'd need to keep it, but I'm going to check it out in the next iteration.
