We can't do this in our free time, so we absolutely need this done in next session (after half term and maybe House Robotics).

This isn't directly related, but does the build.gradle need to be updated so that tensorflow is installed?

Alright, this is now the issue for setting up TFOD as a whole; we'll focus on getting training data for the model first.
