Mood boards for photography choices #46

Open modulist opened 6 years ago

These designs were presented at the monthly meetup 10/11/2017.

The design approach we're planning on using will follow the principles of flat design, where the graphic elements are mostly 2-D and images take up a huge amount of real estate.

The challenge with this approach is that a site for Broward Drupal would largely be made up of photographs or other images. This makes it that much more important to get our image choices right. There is no single image that could convey Broward Drupal, so here are a series of mood boards around different ingredients that we could work into our overall mix:

The idea is that we can show one or more of these images in each hero header or banner, and it would be the overall mix of these images that would create the character of the website.

You can click on any of the images below to get a closer look. Please feel free to add your feedback or suggestions as comments to this thread.

These are great images and certainly convey a work/study, South Florida feel.

Here's some thoughts and opinions from my side: (of course, thank you for the image research and chat starter)

1: Thought: BDUG has always been an indoor teaching and learning environment for 8 years. Now it's transitioning into collaborative, community "thought leadership" and expert software provider. I hope that will continue for quite some time. This thought may help other opinions from members to chime in.

2: I agree, it's tough to frame a whole site from the image perspective, but personally, I'd love to see the Member Contribution part of the site emerge as one of the showcase elements on the front page as well as the landing page and following page paths.

3: From my eyes (plus working with Claudio for years), he is a master of geometric and pattern design on top of all the other stuff he rocks. Maybe bringing this into the design equation (along with image choices) could help to come up with something quite unique. Have a look at what https://www.design4drupal.org/ did on their front end. I love the soft color washes and patterns. It does make for a very soft, no-anxiety, timeless front page. But it does lack quite a bit too. I do love their "Featured People" page and the layout. https://www.design4drupal.org/speakers

Anyone have any opinions??
