fix for #103 #123

I'm pulling to dev_EM, but that looks as if it's quite behind. Might be better to either update dev_EM or just merge with dev. My work is uptodate with the master branch on Brown's repository.

@atbradley if ok with you, I'll leave this to you.
because either or both of these branches may be significantly out-of-date, and since @emylonas said it was just a small change, suggestion:
- manually replicate it in the dev-branch
- deploy to dev & get the ok
- then merge into main and deploy to production

Merging to dev_EM. I'll look at merging these changes with dev during the next sprint.
