Youtube becomes 'slower' over time #3260

What happened?

Hi,

After about 12 hours, youtube videos start to exhibit signs of stuttering, dropped frames and becomes very slow to seek to a point in the video. e.g. when seeking, you see the spinning circle for 1 to 2 seconds. After restarting waterfox, the issue is not present.

It's hard to definitively say when this happens, but typically I've had waterfox open for at least 6 hours (not watching youtube all the time). If I launch chrome or edge, the issue is not reproducible, so it is not Windows 11 or my internet connection.

I have not noticed this since the recent upgrade to G6.0.5 - my viewing/browsing habits have not really changed since the upgrade.

Is there anything I can do to help troubleshooting?

Thanks.

Perhaps related to this issue (see my reply for potential solution)?

Unless Google ( stops messing around ) ...

Otherwise the problem will appear again and again ...

An update - after reading about similar behaviour on the Waterfox Reddit, I disabled the VP9 codec and so far (2 days) it has fixed the problems I reported above (which had become a lot worse in the recent updates).

Here is the thread and the setting to disable - https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/1f352v9/comment/llrebec/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

media.mediasource.vp9.enabled = false

The VP9 decoder has been updated in the 6.5 beta if you want to test it.
