FavIcons.sqlite, Places.sqlite and Keys3.db + logins.json must be run through a firefox version between 57 and 72 in order to convert correctly to a modern version supported format / Keys4.db
The sqlite file transferred from Waterfox classic or firefox 56 and older will be designated as corrupt if run directly on Firefox 73+ or Waterfox Current / G.
The Key3.db is not propogated to Key4.db beyond Firefox 72 as well.
What happened?
Recently, I noticed that I had 2 WaterFox programs in my Control Panel, Programs list — 1 of them, was the G.xx version, & the other was what appeared to be a FireFox version, several numbers separated by dots. I tried updating both of them using the auto-update function. The WaterFox G.xx version seemed to update OK, but the WaterFox FireFox-like numbered version did not, & remains unable to be updated. Now, I have 2 different versions that, despite both being named WaterFox, the WaterFox G.xx version shows the WaterFox name at the bottom of the Settings page, & the WaterFox numbered version, says FireFox. Neither of them has any recoverable data, history, or passwords that I saved previously. Perhaps related, I can open both, but when setting passwords in 1, never appears nor is available in the other. I've had long & ongoing problems like this with WaterFox, & even managed to contact Mr. Alex directly about this some time ago, & although he was able to walk me through getting my lost settings restored, it's been awhile. Even more so, I suspect that I'm not the only 1 to have this recurring issue with WaterFox. Bluntly, it's very frustrating & getting to the point where I'm strongly considering ditching WaterFox for another browser, after having been using it for many years. I even set up an account here, just to try to repost it publicly, in hopes that, 1. I'll be able to get some resolution to this & 2. Add my voice to others who are likely having the same issues. As to what did I expect to happen? Why, that those odd discrepancies I mention above would be resolved long before now, & even more importantly, that WaterFox would perform reliably, & when updating, my data, history & passwords were retained. I thank & respect all those who have put so much hard work into WaterFox, but really, that has worn thin in light of these ongoing & repeating issues mentioned above. I'm not really that computer or interweb savvy, & I'm sure that isn't helping matters any, but I don't think that one should have to be savvy with them, to be able to use a browser.
