Upgrade your video driver, latest is from 2022, yours is from 2017
I can't quite update the drivers, as it has a "weird bug" about the mouse acceleration/freezing on newer AMD drivers... Just by going though the AMD Forum, you can definitely see, that the bug has seen since "2019" and even updating it further (like the 2022 update of the driver), just won't work... That, I can't quite update it, as it would be incredibly annoying to deal with the freezing.
But, you know what is strange, like other versions of Firefox don't have this "WebRender (Software)", while just Waterfox won't have hardware acceleration... Maybe it's the DirectX? It just doesn't make any sense... And, why did it "crash" the GPU process?
I don't know if this is the error "exactly", but it looks like this.. runtime: unavailable, WebRender initialization failed, Blocklisted; failure code FEATURE_FAILURE_WEBRENDER_INITIALIZE_SYNC_FIRST
took it, from the log.
I should probably, try it on Linux, later...
But, either way, thanks for asking about it..
So, I've tried it on Linux, right now... and it does, seem to just have "WebRender" instead of "WebRender (Software)", so... while that is good, there are a couple of "Blocklisted by gfxInfo" messages, some even say like WebRender on them... like: WEBRENDER_COMPOSITOR default disabled Disabled by default Blocklisted; failure code FEATURE_FAILURE_DISABLED env blocklisted Blocklisted by gfxInfo Blocklisted; failure code FEATURE_FAILURE_WEBRENDER_COMPOSITOR_DISABLED runtime blocked Cannot be enabled in release or beta Blocklisted; failure code FEATURE_FAILURE_DISABLE_RELEASE_OR_BETA
For context, I'm running something that's based on Debian 12 Bookworm, and did install the Waterfox, that already has the "fresh profile". Should I also provide the logs for the Linux version of Waterfox?
So, what's wrong with Windows, then? (sorry for asking that again...) But, I think at the moment that, I want to focus on the Windows version of Waterfox...
I'll close the issue as I won't be using the browser, I'm unsure how worth it is to get it working... I would use it, but I'll use the alternatives instead.
also, it takes longer to startup as it's trying to get "hardware acceleration" to work (fails obviously), as every single time when starting up the browser. disabling hardware acceleration solves it anyways, way shorter to startup.
as on linux, the "Blocklisted by gfxInfo" is on Firefox aswell, so not exactly a waterfox issue...
What happened?
So, I've got a issue about hardware acceleration on WaterFox (G6.0.15, latest at the time) and seems to just be WaterFox's issue, and even with a fresh profile...
Versions of Firefox (x64) that I've tried that have working hardware acceleration with fresh profiles (by default): 126.0.1 (the Normal Release) 115.11.0 (the ESR Release) 126.0-1 (on LibreWolf)
Maybe, it isn't something "serious"... since this is an older processor made in "2014" (the AMD A6-6310 APU).
Right around, "Failure Log" it says something about "Failed to initialize GPU process"... and, I've tried my best to get hardware acceleration with various "about:config" stuff, and it just won't work...
The operating system is running: Windows 10 - 22H2 with "OS Build being 19045.4239"
