Regardless of what I specify for the background color of a gdisplay, the text on the graph is drawn on a black background. The foreground option does change the text color, though, so foreground=color.black results in black text on a black background, unreadable.
This seems to be a platform specific issue, as (for VPython 6.05) it exhibits the bug under Mac OS X 10.7 but not under Mac OS X 10.6.
