Names with special characters get mangled in output csv #3

Welcome to the R issue that has caused me the most hair loss and temper tantrums: encoding of text in non UTF-8 formats. There are some packages and tools (e.g., here) to work around this, including setting encoding format at input. But I haven't found them to work well. Even gsubs or regex sometimes don't work cleanly.

standardizing the way they are entered going forward might be the simplest way to avoid this problem in years to come.

This actually seems to be a problem with Excel. The names are formatted fine in the .csv if I read it into R or look at it in a text editor
