With this bit of code I've wrangled all the Excel sheets into one big .csv file. Things I did to the data:

combined data from all dates and all sites
Formatted date as ISO yyyy-mm-dd
re-calculated day of year from date (it was often off by a day)
consolidated text notes from the time column and the comments column
validated time as HH:MM
translated column headings to English

I also cleaned the Manaus weather station data by:

Consolidating data by day (averaging readings on the rare occasion there were two per day)
translated column names to English
formatted date as ISO yyyy-mm-dd
