Turrets are too powerful when upgraded #7

Open Brycey92 opened 5 years ago

Pack version 1.0.2-1

Describe the bug With 8 total damage upgrades, and 8 total speed upgrades, high-tier turrets become overpowered.

To reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Place a tier 5 turret base
  2. Power it
  3. Place a railgun or laser turret on it
  4. Insert 8 damage upgrades to the base
  5. Insert 8 speed upgrades to the base
  6. Insert railgun ammo if needed
  7. Watch it mow down anything and everything with ease

Expected behavior Turrets should be less powerful when fully upgraded, or should accept fewer upgrades, or should not accept damage and/or speed upgrades.

I'll need some help balancing these.

WillKracke commented 5 years ago

Speed upgrades seem a little out of place especially on something like railguns, I can't test right now but do you think turrets become reasonable simply by removing speed upgrades altogether? Otherwise I'll look at the config and see if there are any other solutions.

Brycey92 commented 5 years ago

I'll have to test several turret types without speed upgrades to determine whether the solution will work, and also get others' opinions on whether they think it's balanced.

Brycey92 commented 5 years ago

I opened an issue on OMT's github here on making upgrade effects configurable per turret, which might help if banning speed upgrades doesn't do the trick. The enhancement has been added to their 3.1.0 milestone.

Gonna add support for configuring it more precisely Also thinking of rewriting its config completely. This is getting really messy...

The speed upgrades are now called "Upgrade - Fire Rate", and will be banned in pack version 1.0.5-1. I'll consider this a good enough hotfix until we can revisit the issue later.
