I don't know anything about the Lua, but the original countermeasures had flares and jammers, both entities which could be spawned + welded to a vehicle (mainly planes I believe). Missiles could either be GPS/laser guided or heat seeking. Heat seekers tracked thrusters and hoverballs, and maybe this time they could track active ACF engines? GPS/laser had their own sort of system, though I am not entirely sure what. The guided missiles DID NOT always have pinpoint accuracy, which, coupled with the countermeasures available, made them quite balanced. They had a high potential for damage, but would not always achieve it. Also, IIRC, the countermeasures were obviously rather short-ranged and not always 100% effective.
