Organisations - Budibase License Server

Requirements

• Organisations must register with us to get paid features
• The org receives a license key
• On app startup, the license key is checked against our licensing server
• Based on the plan your license has, you can pull API endpoints from our private NPM registry (@budibase-pro) in the form of API endpoints
• These API endpoints are registered with your Koa app server
• All frontend code just exists in the open source repo, since it won’t work without the proprietary backend code

License Server

• License server is a closed source app running in AWS
• Stores data in dynamo
• Our license server generates and signs a key
• They stick it in their user database, we stick it in our licensing database in dynamo
• Their builder pulls our public key when the app starts, and uses it to check the license
• Need to build in expiry to the certificates with a monthly (or more frequent) heartbeat so we can check if their plan is still valid
• There should be a grace period for this. Don’t shut them off as soon as a month is up
