My guess is you are trying to use it on a machine that needs more power to start up than redstone engine can provide.
Did you try breaking and replacing them?
Yes I was working on creative and I tried even to break all of them and placing only one. They were connected to either fluid and normal pipes. They just stopped working.
Could you post a screenshot? Also the fml log.
In about three hours... I don't have access to my computer right now. sorry. I can provide an debug log if needed.

Well I've been getting several such reports, but I'm stumped. Cannot duplicate.
The issue can be closed for now... The Gamerule doDayLightCycle = false makes the redstone engine stop. I tried this when I saw Issue #1152
I will look into both this evening
I have been lately using Buildcraft engines and the main problem is that they stopped working at all. It seems to be broken only on one, but my major save. The Stirling engine and combustion are working. They were working before, so I don't know what the issue of problem could be. The engine doesn't react to redstone signal at any was (no particles, no movement, no power, no heat up).
