I followed the Fedora Bumblebee guide. I blacklisted nouveau and installed bumblebee. I have a laptop with intel graphics and 950m, lenovo e570.

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most frequently when this kernel module was built
against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs from the one
used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as rivafb, nvidiafb, or nouveau is present and prevents
the NVIDIA kernel module from obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s), or no NVIDIA GPU
installed in this system is supported by this NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release.

Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel messages' at the end of the file
       '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for more information.

ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find
suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at
       www.nvidia.com.

bbswitch is loaded into the current kernel ok.

All NVIDIA checks completed, but there were 1 or more failures...
Try running this script with the --debug option to find clues about what has
gone wrong with the NVIDIA driver compile process.

Can you paste /var/log/nvidia-installer.log to site such as pastebin and link back here? Thanks,

Try adding

pcie_port_pm=off

to the kernel command line arguments. See if that helps out.

I installed nvidia-akmod from rpmfusion, going to try uninstalling it and trying again

gsgatlin commented 6 years ago

Yes, do not install any nvidia-akmod. It will not work. That is probably your underlying problem. remove any nvidia rpms other then bumblebee-nvida.

delete NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-384.98 out of the /tmp directory and see if that helps.

rawsh commented 6 years ago

akmod was only installed after posting the issue. Yes, adding pcie_port_pm=off fixes it! However, it has this output on driver build: "sed: can't read /usr/share/applications/nvidia-settings.desktop: No such file or directory"

gsgatlin commented 6 years ago

Hmnn. Ok. I am unsure why the nvidia installer did not put the desktop file there. Maybe its in some other path?

I get

[root@t540p ~]# locate nvidia-settings.desktop /usr/share/applications/nvidia-settings.desktop

On my system here. I wasn't sure if that worked in GNOME. It does work in MATE which I use personally.

You can run the nvidia-settings without a desktop file by typing

optirun -b none nvidia-settings -c :8

Hope that helps.

Ok, thanks
