From here https://github.com/github/codespaces-jupyter Use this template
Create a repository
I have the repository : https://github.com/eliselavy/codespaces-journal-of-digital-history with author template
https://github.com/codespaces/new
Can be open in JupyterLab
By running: %pip install jupyterlab-citation-manager
Reopen it in JupyterLab ( restart Kernel is not enough)
Synchronization with zotero Access to your Zotero library
By Opening in Visual Studio Code
Open a terminal and run : jupyter lab
Still problem for R's user Look at solution proposed also by @c2dhfma with coder https://coder.com/
The scenari to propose to the author:
To review : https://vimeo.com/921960397/d53f262f29
For GitHub codespaces: https://vimeo.com/922996667/b8781c67cd
From the GitHub code spaces
However, teaching people to code or running a workshop in GitHub Codespaces creates a better experience for all participants. Instead of expecting beginner developers to understand how to clone repositories to work with a template, they can open up a codespace and work in a development environment you’ve configured.
Written in JDH focus maybe first on the writting process and build up after the tools needed
Look at also DeepNote - Code space

I tested also the Docker extenssion Jupyter, see here: https://github.com/C2DH/journal-of-digital-history-jupyter-stack/issues/8#issuecomment-1952673854
