add format for "data" or "dataset" #124

UIU - I am writing to request that “data” or “dataset” be listed as a searchable format in VuFind. With a colleague, I have just completed interviews with secondary data users on campus and one of their main suggestions was that datasets should be easier to find. We are working to get records into Voyager for the datasets we own, but without the facet for datasets they are still very difficult to find.

A format definition for “data” or “dataset” is not in our current VuFind 0.6 or WebVoyage catalogs as far as I can tell. At a high level, the decision would need to be made (probably by a CARLI committee) as to whether or not this format should be added to the list of formats. At an operational level, we would need a specific definition for the data/dataset format. Formats are identified using specific combinations of data in the Bibliographic Record’s Leader, 006, 007, 008, and other variable fields.

UIU - On behalf of UIUC’s Data Services Committee, I’m writing to suggest a “data” or “dataset” format in VuFind3. Such an option would hopefully allow patrons to more easily discover data in the library’s collection.

NS has been in touch with them to try to get a specification for a data/dataset format, but one has not yet been established. Changing to Inactive for now.
