Aeon request links #194

NBY - At this point for the Newberry to use this interface as its catalog we would need the following: 5. Implementing our Aeon request links as a dynamic link or button instead of the static urls in the holdings record Example: https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/vf-nby/Record/NBYdb.833320

Aeon request system: https://www.atlas-sys.com/aeon/ University of Chicago uses VuFind and uses Aeon for requests: https://catalog.lib.uchicago.edu/vufind/Record/6645892

The method used at the Newberry for the Aeon Request system is an ad hoc solution reached by CARLI staff because both VuFind and WebVoyage were frozen for development. UIUC is also in the same boat with us. (Example from UIUC: https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/vf-uiu/Record/UIUdb.5392318) It is not the standard method as designed by Aeon. These current static urls are cumbersome for us to manage and can cause confusion among our staff and users. Without knowing the intricacies of the prescribed Aeon setup, I know they are described as dynamic urls and do not use 856s. A set of bibliographic information is identified from the item and used to populate a request form that is submitted by our users to our staff for paging the material. The example from the University of Chicago Library from their VuFind catalog I am pretty sure follows the prescribed method for implementing the system. We will probably need to work with Aeon and CARLI staff to add these request links to our records

Am I correct that when I see a NBY item in the catalog, that it does not have an item status listed is as a result of how it is entered as an E-Resource for Aeon functionality?

@dmcmpbll I have a feeling it might be related to #242 (which needs more research). These three items and the original example above don't have barcodes in NBYdb.

Adding in that ALP may begin using Aeon as well.
