In my case it was that the Montserrat font is not installed by default (Orran, assuming that is the same issue you had?)
You can fix that by going to https://fonts.google.com/ and searching for Montserrat.
Download the font and unzip it.
On a mac run the Font Book app, press the + key and Open the unzipped folder. I had to manually remove a few duplicate fonts. After that I was able to exit and restart Powerpoint and open the file.
