This sounds like a new Tier 1b collection (https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=6094976).
I would certainly be keen for it to be tier 1b. I had not realized until last week that it had been combined with the AMWG diagnostics. It is currently listed on the tier 2a page (https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/display/ATM/Metrics+Activity+-+Activity+2+a)
Hi Philip, I think that the "2a" from the page you linked to refers to an outline of the various activities that are part of the atmosphere team's "metrics" activity. I don't think it has anything to do with the "Tier 1a", "Tier 1b", etc. classification of diagnostic "collections". I think you can suggest adding a Tier 1b chemistry collection.
Are you basically wanting to have a port of the WACCM and CAM-Chem Diagnostics package? ... an example of which is here: http://webext.cgd.ucar.edu/FCLIMO/f2000.e122_mam4.STRATMAM3.f19.f19.002/atm/f2000.e122_mam4.STRATMAM3.f19.f19.002-f2000.e122_mam4.C4SSOA_L40.f19.f19.001/
At least a subset of these should be very easy to add, assuming that you/we have the necessary observational data available.
Hi Susannah. Yes, those are the diagnostics and plots, and many of them should be simple extensions of the existing converted AMWG diagnostic system (a few will be more interesting to code). When they were initally listed on the tier 2a list, I wasn't aware how closely related to the AMWG diagnostics they were, so personally I agree with you that they should be a tier 1b diagnostic set. I note that the chemistry diagnostics include a lot of aerosol metrics too.
Hi Phillip, just to be sure it is clear, what I mean is that they are not on a "Tier 2a list" (there isn't a Tier 2a list -- only, somehwat confusingly, an "activity 2a", the numbering of which derives from this outline: https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/display/ATM/Atmosphere+Metrics+Activity). There was not a decision, as far as I am aware, that the chemistry should be a Tier 2 collection. I think the only reason it is not on the Tier 1b list is because nobody suggested it at the time that list was put together and discussed.
I agree.
Philip Cameron-Smith would like some chemistry diagnostics as in the recent version (2014-08-04) of NCAR's diagnostics.
