Upcoming syndromic surveillance / ADT MVP background research

User story

As a Researcher on ReportStream, I want to understand more about the syndromic surveillance / ADT ecosystem, especially information related to the upcoming MVP with the Oklahoma STLT, so that I can best support the success of the MVP and ReportStream's capability as an intermediary for ADT data.

Background

ReportStream stakeholders are strategically discussing the opportunity for ReportStream to accept ADT feeds from an ecosystem of Senders and route that data to NSSP BioSense. Recently, ReportStream is considering kicking off a pilot with the Oklahoma (STLT) public health department, where hospitals would send ADT data through ReportStream to CDC NSSP. We will need to consider relationships with the hospitals in question, OK PHD, and potentially another consulting company involved in this work.

Understanding the design, product, and engineering strategies for connecting to an EMR/EHR system
Understanding the full slate of product requirements that hospital senders and the NSSP will need from ReportStream

Open questions

What is the actual balance/statistics of the hospitals that are not yet connected to BioSense?
What is an appropriate characterization of the hospitals that are connected to BioSense? Do they really have 'outdated' connections?
What system(s) will ReportStream need to connect to? What new partnership(s) will we need to form?

Acceptance criteria

[ ] Conduct background research into hospital sender transport methods and transport capabilities (nice-to-have if specifically related to OK hospitals)
[ ] Conduct background research into the OK hospital <> ADT landscape, and any guidance from the OK PHD specifically
[ ] Conduct background research into NSSP needs, including format of data received
[ ] Share research with Design Lead and discuss synthesis
[ ] Share out synthesis with Product folk as needed
