Research: expanding race and language values (STLT data needs)

Description

WA has requested an expansion of the race and preferred language values that SimpleReport sends. We'd like to understand how we can standardize an expanded value set across STLTs.

This should be a lightweight effort (don't need to talk to all STLTs).

Considerations and research questions

• We will likely not be able to support sending multiple values for race/ethnicity (user will still only be able to select 1).
• What data are facilities already collecting?
• What values do most STLTs want for race/ethnicity and preferred language?
• SOGI data? Ordering provider data?

Status update 2/13/23: Tomi working with Lizzie. Brick Green has thoughts on how we should approach a national standard. We should align on strategy internally, learn what RS has thought about. Mike J to schedule time on APHL call.

Status update 3/7/23: Tomi and Lizzie planning on meeting with Megan Light Status update 3/27/23: CDC webinar on race/ethnicity, trying to understand impact on this work. Tomi reached out to Lizzie to discuss. Lots of higher level discussion on race/ethnicity.
