We currently use the Crossref Funder ID for the funder_id value and we also send that metadata to EZID and DataCite. Crossref is transitioning their funder registry to ROR, so we should see if we can make the switch as well.
We will need to:
find a marker in the ROR record that helps us determine if the institution is a funder (we currently look for the existence of the crossref funder id
determine if DataCite supports ROR as a funder identifier type, if so switch to sending the ROR id
run a script to update the existing metadata in Dynamo as well as EZID
