Cleanup #251

started to remove unused methods referring to the database and some old commented out code. What else should I add to this?

@karindalziel In response to your question about "major african poets" (I can't see your comment on my end). Instead of sorting by that, we are sorting by whether people have ids or not. It looks like the assumption in the original code is that only major African poets would have ids. We are marking "major african poets" under the field "type" if you think we still need to use this data.
