Content for footer #223

we need to decide exactly what will go into the footer. Usually we put the sponsor logos in there, and I have:

But I assume we need one for IATH and Salmon?

Alternately, logos can go on about page, and the footer can contain only text.

Some examples: http://civilwardc.org/ https://lewisandclarkjournals.unl.edu/ http://earlywashingtondc.org/ https://cather.unl.edu/

We need NEH, UNL, IATH, Archaeology Southwest, and Salmon itself. I need to check with Larry Baker, but I'm assuming we'd use the logo that is in the middle of this page: https://www.salmonruins.com/. I'll comment back once i hear from Larry.

Salmon should be credited as "Salmon Ruins Museum". And here's their logo and Arch SW's logo. WARNING: the Salmon logo is a mess. If need be, I can spend some time trying to fix it but for now we can use what Larry sent me (tho fuzzy it may be).

@wnmartin Does IATH have a logo and if so could you send me the file? It would be best if it was grayscale or I can make it so, all the other logos will have no color.

If not, I can use one for University of Virginia. That's what I do for CDRH, since we can't have our own logo.

Since I am working on this right now, I'll put in the UVA logo and alter as needed later

karindalziel commented 6 years ago

Hi all! Please check the logos up now, and make sure the links go to where you'd like:

@ccheitman @wnmartin

https://cdrhdev3.unl.edu/

I think the Salmon logo is fine at the size I have it

Also, the order is more or less random, let me know if you'd like it changed

wnmartin commented 6 years ago

the size of the Archaeology Southwest and NEH logos are a bit small relative to the UNL and IATH logos.

karindalziel commented 6 years ago

@ccheitman thoughts? They're all the same width right now. Since those two are in the same column, I could make them, say, 250 pixels wide instead of 200. Attaching image for reference.

Also, do we want any text to go with the logos, or are just the logos enough? See my examples in t he second comment for some types of text we sometimes add to footers.

ccheitman commented 6 years ago

I think we definitely need a "How to cite" link, like what was done for http://earlywashingtondc.org/. Looks like that page should live under "About". I will draft text. I also like the idea of having a comment similar to Civil War Washington. How's this?

I also agree w/ @wnmartin that the Arch SW and NEH logos need to be comparable in size to the others. And NEH should be center top.

@ccheitman if you want to distribute under creative commons, you have to choose which license (CWW chose this one https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/)

Also, you may want a statement about what is under creative commons - presumably only our written text. I'm not sure if we have the rights to the photos, etc. such that we can apply creative commons to them. You can see how CWW handled that here: http://civilwardc.org/about/index.php#rights

karindalziel commented 6 years ago

Carrie clarified she wants a CC NC ND 4.0 license

She will check with others to make sure we can apply the CC license to the images.
