CEDStandards / CEDS-Elements

The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

Is the intention that multiple options can be chosen? Because I would think that, for instance, a "2 year" could also be either a "regular" or a "CareerAndTechnical" - basically these options do not seem mutually exclusive.

thanks!

The CEDS element "School Type" was designed for K12 but the CEDS element “Level of Institution” was designed for Postsecondary. It already has the options “Four or more years”, “At least 2 but less than 4” and “Less than 2 years (below associate)." The types in K12 are defined by regulatory and non-regulatory guidance. In K12 the "levels" such as grade levels offered and "School Level", and other classifications are addressed with other elements.

Suggestion: Use “Level of Institution” in PS rather than adding options to "School Type" and adding it to PS context. If the options in Level of Institution don't align with the IPEDS definitions then a new ticket could be submitted to address that. If other classifications are needed for other use cases, then additional tickets could be submitted addressing each dimension of classification.
