CEDStandards / CEDS-Elements

The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

Use Case Title Accreditation Agency

Use Case Description We propose adding the existing CEDS element, Accreditation Agency, to Postsecondary Institution.

Definition: The agency that accredited a program.

Option Set: CAEP - Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation NAEYC - National Association for the Education of Young Children NECPA - National Early Childhood Program Accreditation NAC - National Accreditation Commission COA - Council on Accreditation NAFCC - National Association for Family Child Care SACS - Southern Association of Colleges and Schools NotAccredited - Not accredited Other - Other Accreditation Agency

Use Case Background This element should be included for both the institution and the program level. It may be used to report on program accreditation and types. This may often be used in conjunction with the element “Accreditation Award Date.”

Location of Element in the Domain Entity Schema Accreditation

Hi,

Is accreditation typically at the institution level? Or is it sometimes/usually at the program/division/etc. level?

thanks!

Martin

Per Martin's question about Accreditation Agency: The element could be added to both "PS Institution" and "PS Institution > Program" DES contexts.

Question for the community: This element currently has an Early Learning-specific option set. The proposal (issue #198) would add the element to the Postsecondary domain and add PS-specific accreditation agencies to the list. Should this also include K12 accreditors in the list and be added to the K12 domain? (Note: K12 currently only has an open ended field for "Accreditation Agency Name" with no controlled vocabulary.)
