The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

Use Case Title Add new CEDS elements pertaining to Student Permissions

Target Date Needed ASAP

Use Case Description NCDPI collects information on permissions are granted by their parents/guardians that pertain to school related activities. For each permission, the dates the permission was granted or denied is associated. Typically, parents/guardians will need to update the permissions each school year. Currently the CEDS model does not contain information about permissions. NCDPI would like to start the discussion with the CEDS community about adding these elements. Concurrently A4L is working with NCDPI and its broader community to determine how student permission best fit in their model as well.

Below is a list of student related permissions and their definitions as defined by NCDPI.

Release of Directory Information - College Recruitment | Has parent/guardian granted the State permission to release student directory information to IHEs for college recruitment? Y/N

Release of Directory Information - Military Recruitment | Has parent/guardian granted the State permission to release student directory information for Military recruitment? Y/N

Grant permission to release test data | Has parent/guardian granted the State permission to release National College Prep Test results with IHEs? Y/N

Permission for Internet Use | Has the parent/guardian granted permission for the student to use the internet at school? Y/N

Type of Internet Use permitted (description) | If the parent/guardian restricted internet use at school, what type of access is the student allowed to have/not have?

Field Trips Allowable | Has the parent/guardian granted permission for the student to participate in school field trips? Y/N

Permission to Ride Bike Home | Has the parent/guardian granted permission for the student to ride their bike home from school? Y/N

Permission for School Transport | Has the parent/guardian granted permission for the student to use school transportation? Y/N

Permission to Walk Home | Has the parent/guardian granted permission for the student to walk home from school? Y/N
